Tom came to teaching with one goal in mind – to be an inspiration. He continues this mission by providing workshops for students and teachers in all aspects of learning to learn.

The work I can undertake with pupils can include...

  • One on one coaching (through the school or privately)
  • Work with specific ‘target’ groups e.g. Borderline Exam groups (GCSE & A Level), Gifted and Talented Groups, Underachieving Boys/Girls.
  • Whole year group sessions on Exam, Revision and Study skills, Thinking Skills and Creativity, Employability and Motivation, Stress Management
  • Transition / Collapsed timetable/Induction days (Yr 6 to 7, 9 to 10, 11 to 12)

Transforming the classroom has to begin with (or at least include!) the pupils which is why much of our work is still dedicated to working with students.

All our courses contain a combination of techniques to address both the ‘How’ and ‘Why’ of learning i.e. How do I do it? and Why should I bother? (sometimes referred to as the will and the skill).

It is not just a few simple tricks and a couple of good gags but a very wide ranging and impactful day or half day which seeks to bring the conversation about learning to the fore and really re establish the fundamentals.

Tom delivers these courses himself and is also willing to combine them with presentations to parents. Everything that is covered in the presentations is also in his book and he is happy for follow up conversations with staff and students on specific issues or topics – or that you buy the book and do it all yourself!

Tom is, by training and natural inclination, a Geography teacher, and he still has the OS map collection and crayons to prove it. He still teaches the subject part time.
